6.24.2008: Question of the Day

This year slate of shows includes a lot of faces from last year's HCTF. For all the returning HCTF-ers and audience members from last year, what's your best memory of HCTF 2007?

My favorite part of last year's festival was "The Yarn". The storytelling event was an unexpected surprise and it was great to have the audience participate fully in the event. The stories were funny and touching and allowed us as the directors of the festival to hear insightful stories about the people who were participating in the festival and those in the audience. I felt like I knew everyone a little bit better afterward.

Christine Baniewicz's "Musical! the musical" was the highlight for me. Getting the chance to hear a very original voice was a delight, but getting to also watch as an audience discovered the vitality of that voice for the first time was even better.

i remember the intrest, enthusiasm, and support of the audience more than anything when i presented an unfinished work last year. there were so many questions and positive words! i remember, specifically, feeling so encouraged to share my ideas with the audience that i sung a snippet of an unfinished song for them, to much laughter and applause. that kind of positive energy has brought me back to the festival this year, to preview another unfinished work.

There was so much goodness to last year's festival: meeting new people, seeing so many young people with talent, getting to see original works by local playwrights, and just enjoying the variety of the presentations. As much as I enjoyed the plays, I appreciated even more seeing the behind the scenes look at the development of them from the writers' perspectives in the Playwright's Roundtable. I am not a writer so it was enlightening for me to learn about the processes the different writers use.
